Book tours can be an incredible opportunity to promote your book and connect with readers. But with ever-changing digital landscapes and a rising need for authentic in-person events, the key is to make your book tour both unforgettable and successful. Today, we’ll explore strategies for both a digital and in-person book tour.
1. Defining Your Target Audience: Who is your book for and how can you best reach them?
If you want to sell books along your tour, you need the right readers to attend the events. To maximize your success make sure that each stop on your tour reaches your ideal audience.
2. Maximizing Digital Book Tours: Utilize the digital platform your readers are on. Being a guest on a podcast can be exciting and valuable practice for talking about your book, but speaking on ten in a row to the wrong audience won’t equate to book sales. If your audience is on Facebook, be sure the podcast host shares the content there as well, or that you can. Verify the podcast has a decent following as well. It’s generous to help out new podcast hosts but if they are all new, you’ll be speaking to crickets. Use a variety of digital platforms to make the most of your efforts and expand your reach.
3. Taking Book Tours In-Person: Think creatively about the stops you can make. Will you be hosting an in-person launch party? If so, make it stop number one! Then move to bookstores, libraries, coffee shops, small boutiques, community centers, networking groups … as you can see the possibilities are many.
4. Creating Lasting Connections with Readers: Decide how you will capture your reader’s email—either using a guest book in-person or an opt-in digitally. Having these emails will allow you to continue the journey with each of your readers.
By understanding your target audience, utilizing digital platforms to reach them, and creating engaging in-person events, you have the ability to make a memorable and successful book tour. Use these strategies to form lasting connections with readers long after your book tour has ended.
